Aimee Cox

Executive Director

As Executive Director of The Leon Institute, Aimee Cox brings deep experience in community development, systems of care, and social determinants of health.

Aimee approaches intractable problems with unshakable resolve and is at her best when supporting transformational change through collaboration. Before joining TLI as Executive Director, Aimee served as a Senior Advisor at National Healthcare and Housing Advisors providing technical assistance to providers implementing CalAIM Community Supports and Enhanced Care Management. Prior to that, she was the Chief Impact and Strategy Officer for the San Diego Continuum of Care working to make lasting reductions in the number of people experiencing homelessness. She engaged with youth and youth providers to build a youth-driven ecosystem of housing and care and guided Managed Health Care Plans in addressing housing insecurity for Medi-Cal Members.

Aimee grew up in Colorado’s Pikes Peak region and had a celebrated public service career leading and managing high-profile projects in parks and recreation, housing, economic development, and community health. She worked with the Colorado Springs City Council to improve legislative systems, guide policy decisions, and foster citizen participation and was appointed to direct the City’s HUD-funded programs and lead homelessness initiatives. Aimee rallied the community to build the region’s first low barrier shelter, day center, and permanent supportive housing complex and to plan for affordable housing. Understanding that homelessness is a health crisis, Aimee moved on to lead a community health nonprofit that focused on improving care for 170,000 Medicaid Members and achieving health equity and managed the Pikes Peak Continuum of Care.

Aimee also served as Mayor Pro Tem in her hometown of Manitou Springs, CO, guiding downtown revitalization during the Great Recession. An avid learner, Aimee is currently training to sail historic tall ships with the San Diego Maritime Museum.
